What is Youth?
A few months ago, I found myself walking through the halls of Northwestern College chatting with a friend. We were discussing our youth - our high school years in particular - and when asked to reflect on my own, I said, "youth? I remember my youth (in fact, many would say I am still in it). High school for me was a time of immense joy, grief, insecurity, feelings of abandonment, love, hate... a period of self-discovery that molded me into the person I am today." Ok, truthfully, it didn't come out with the same eloquence, but these were the exact thoughts that flowed through my mind.
Many of you may have these same feelings. My first love, my first hate, my moments of humiliation, triumph, and loneliness... all of these happened to me in High School. And on top of that, all of these emotions are presented against a backdrop of finding out who we are and who we want to be. Mahirap magadjust dito sa Minnesota, diba? All my life I struggled with who I was... I am a Filipino-American, but what does that mean?
If you are feeling these same emotions or thinking these same thoughts, I would like to invite you visit FACC's Youth Group. Our mission is to provide a forum for high school aged individuals where your feelings and frustrations - your questions about faith, life, love, friendship, and GOD - can all be shared. We won't guarantee answers (answers are things you'll have to come up with on your own) but we will guarantee fellowship, support, and a really fun place to hang out.
So put down the video game controller, let the Friendster blog wait, and join us.
Currently, our youth group meets Wednesday nights at 6:00pm in the chapel of Presbyterian Homes in Arden Hills. Please, join us!
I would also like to pose another question. Are you struggling with starting college, finishing college, starting a career or a family? Try visiting our Young Adults group! A young adults Sunday school geared towards college and post-college aged individuals meets Sunday mornings at 9:30am in the gazebo behind the chapel (weather permitting). And don't forget to keep your eyes posted for other Young Adults and Youth activities throughout the week as well.
